Thesis Writing Guide

Graduating students have the requirement to submit thesis at the end of their degree. Some students are afraid to do academic writing as it need dedication and hard work to study a problem in depth and comes with a solution to solve it. Thesis is golden chance to showcase your skills of research and writing and inform your reader about your favorite topic with practical implication of it.

What things a student keep in mind while writing thesis? Of course, there is ton of information available on internet but mostly describe about the components of thesis and how to write it. They ignore the importance of tricks that keep your reader indulge in your thesis. Some of these are:

  • Add important and necessary arguments. Avoid overflooding of words and complicated phrases.
  • Readers skimmed documents to save their time so that meaningful information in text figures and tables.
  • Don’t finalize your first draft. Edit and proofread it make it free of grammatical mistakes.
  • Write in an interesting way for your audience and answer question with logical and valid reasons.
  • Plan a schedule to write and organize your thoughts to see which points should come in which section.

Structuring the thesis:

Thesis is comprised of different section that carry information and knowledge for the reader. Each section has different piece of knowledge so let’s see in detail what these sections are and what to write in it.

  1. Title page

The first page of your thesis should have precise name of your topic with added keywords in it, your name, supervisor name, degree title and roll number, and also name of your respective department.

  1. Acknowledgement

In this section you will get a chance to pay gratitude to those people who have helped you in your journey of thesis. It can be family, friends, laboratory fellows, faculty member, and especially your supervisor.

  1. Table of content

It is necessary to add table of content to give overview of your thesis, including headings and its subheadings with mentioned page number. Title page, abstract and acknowledge part are given roman numbers while other chapters require numeric number pages. There is addition of list of figures and tables in it as well.

  1. Abstract

It consists of single paragraph in which introductory lines address the issue and its importance, then few lines should be of how this study is conducted that comes in the part of materials and method, and then comes the part of your findings which should be clear and understandable so that people of other background can understand well It should be of concise and easy wording that grabs attention of reader and gives them idea of what and why this study is investigated

  1. Introduction

The main purpose of this section is that you need to highlight answers of all the question related to the problem and explain the gap in the study. It is often combined with literature review which gives detail research background of the issue which is previously conducted and methods to study it.

  1. Materials and Method

It is the methodology section where you explain which tool you have used to conduct the study to get outcomes. Mention those tools or software name, describe each step-in detail along with parameters considered with the explanation of choosing it why.

  1. Results

You need to explain the outcomes of your study in this section. Elaborate what these findings are and present with bar chart or graph to smartly convey your results.

  1. Discussion

In this section, you need to shed light on how these results is corroborating with your hypothesis, questions and other theories that needs explanation. Describe any limitation you face while conducting the study.

  1. Conclusion

Summarize all your thesis in two or three paragraph highlighting how this study findings are significant in solving the problem or how useful it be in future. Suggest some future work so that reader can evaluate your data.

  1. Reference

When you write introduction and literature review, your arguments to prove your claim hence authentic source of reference is needed which include books, journals, and articles. These citations are added in reference section in any style according to your department.
